Bio:
Born in California, I spent my childhood in Texas.   I've called Arizona my home since 1977, except for a brief work opportunity in Texas in 2002.  I graduated with a B.S. in Accounting from Arizona State University in 1989.  My work history includes performing functions in accounting, financial analysis, and financial systems support.   I’ve worked for public and private, small and large companies across many different industries.

I am blessed with a wonderful daughter, Cassidy, who is attending Arizona State University.

I am an avid community volunteer.  My most recent volunteer activities have included public affairs and disaster responder team lead for the AZ chapter of the American Red Cross, Sierra Club, and coordinating an ongoing HandsOn Phoenix mural renovation project.   Past volunteering efforts have included work as a Maricopa county CASA (foster child advocate), gay rights organizations, many community services organizations, VITA, education, and children’s organizations as my schedule allows.

I believe a sense of humor, integrity, compassion, a willingness to serve, and honesty are the most important traits a person running for office should have and exhibit.

I ran for political office in 2008 and 2010 as a Green party candidate for this same position and district.   I chose the Green party because of its emphasis on social justice, grassroots democracy, fiscal responsibility, and sustainable practices.   I decided to run as a Democrat this time because I could still hold strong to those values while being a more viable option to the voters without any conflict between the two party platforms.

The issues that make me passionate about running for Congress are improving the economy, creating more living wage jobs, alternative and sustainable energy systems, protecting our resources, a balanced budget, and responsibly ending the war in Afghanistan.  This is not a time to play politics with our future.  Smart, reasonable and informed decisions need to be made now based on common sense.  I feel there are ways to conserve our resources, create jobs, and build our economy, while still promoting and experiencing the American dream.
